When Light is Attacked: Remembering Charlie Kirk

“You Have to Trust Me, For This Must Be Done” - Aslan

In The Chronicles of Narnia, there’s a scene that can stop your breath—the moment Aslan, the mighty Lion, willingly gives Himself over to the White Witch. Stripped of His dignity, mocked, tortured, and killed before an army of jeering creatures. The weight of that moment is almost unbearable. Aslan of course represents Christ—His sacrifice, His surrender, His love that conquered death itself.

When I heard of Charlie Kirk’s passing and then witnessed the way some celebrated it on social media, my heart was struck by the same imagery. No—Charlie was not Christ. But he lived a life that was Christ-filled and Christ-centered. Christ was his life. His words, his convictions, and his relentless pursuit of truth flowed from that foundation.

And yet, just as in Narnia, there are those who rejoice at the suffering or silencing of a voice for good. What we are seeing is not just the loss of a man. It is evidence of something deeper: a spiritual battle raging in plain sight. A fight between light and dark. Good and Evil. Life and death.

Scripture warned us this day would come:

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other… Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”
— Matthew 24:9-14

And again:

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness…”
— Isaiah 5:20

We are in those days. The battlefield is no longer hidden. It is front and center—splashed across media, argued in comment sections, whispered in schools, and played out in the very air we breathe. Distorted morality is being substituted for truth. Deception masquerades as progress. And spiritual forces—dark and real—are waging war for the emotions, minds, and hearts of all.

Charlie’s death is more than an assassination or even a martyr’s passing. It is a clarion call. A wake-up moment reminding us that spiritual warfare is not abstract. It is now. It is active. And every one of us is standing on ground where good and evil collide.

Aslan rose again. Christ rose again. And because of Christ’s resurrection, darkness will never have the final word. That is our hope, even in grief. Charlie’s legacy lives on in the seeds he planted, the lives he touched, and the stand he took for truth and freedom.

Let us honor his memory not with despair, but with courage. Let us live lives so full of Christ that even in the face of ridicule, we shine. Let us not be found among those who cheer when light is attacked, but among those who carry that light forward—bravely, boldly, and without apology.

The Lion is on the move. And no amount of darkness will ever put Him back in chains.
