About JLH – A Lifetime in Rhythm

This site was born from a heartbeat.

The header you see—a bright red heart, a faded heart, and a sinus rhythm between them—tells my story. That rhythm is the “dash in between,” the space between life and death, the measure of a lifetime.

A heart doesn’t beat evenly all the time. In medicine, we call it:

  • Normal Sinus Rhythm: 60–100 beats per minute.

  • Sinus Tachycardia: a racing heart, over 100 beats per minute.

  • Sinus Bradycardia: a slowing under 60 beats per minute.

But these rhythms aren’t just medical—they are life itself.

We all live through ups and downs as natural as a heartbeat. There are tachycardia moments—the mountain tops, the loves, the traumas, the fears—that make our hearts pound for better or worse. And there are bradycardia seasons—when the weight of grief, illness, or age slows us until it feels like we can hardly move forward.

The goal, of course, is balance. A rhythm steady enough to carry us through, without too many long pauses in between. But there is no handbook for this. We each must learn to embrace life’s wild ride, to self-regulate when we can, and to keep coming back to the rhythm that sustains us.

And yet—we were never meant to do it alone. Sometimes it takes mentors, encouragers, and kindred spirits to bump our hearts back into rhythm when we’ve lost the beat. Those lifelines matter in a lifetime.

This site is one of mine. Here, my words—shaped by my own lifetime—flow out as comfort, courage, and connection. They are reminders to live fiercely, love deeply, and leave the dash between our first and last breath marked by legacy, not regret.

My mission is simple:
To keep my own heart beating strongly, bravely, and with purpose until the last beat—
and to help others do the same with theirs.
